This project transformed a three-bedroom family home in Buckinghamshire into a spacious five-bedroom property through a comprehensive rear extension, full refurbishment, and high-quality loft conversion.
The loft conversion created two new guest bedrooms connected by a shared en-suite. One room was designed as a flexible home studio and study with a pull-out bed for occasional guests; the second provides comfortable accommodation for visiting family. Both were carefully planned around the evolving needs of a growing household.
To minimise on-site disruption, the dormer structures were prefabricated off-site and craned into position. The new loft floor is carried on spliced steel beams, and a redesigned staircase improves circulation throughout the first floor. A library nook integrated into the spine wall makes excellent use of available space — a quiet detail that rewards daily life.
To the front elevation, Velux rooflights complement the larger rear dormers, maintaining the property’s street presence whilst maximising natural light within.
The result is a sensitively extended and refurbished home that delivers significantly more space without compromising the character of what was already there.
