Chinook is a comprehensive refurbishment and extension of a detached family home in Lancashire — designed to future-proof the property rather than prompt a move.
Working from a detailed client brief, the project was anchored by a single key insight: the rear of the house remained in shadow until well into the afternoon. The solution was a glass roof extension to the front elevation, dramatically transforming the interior’s brightness and delivering the light-filled spaces the clients had always wanted.
A full refurbishment addressed every room bar the study. The garage was reconfigured to accommodate a utility room and boot room, with provisions built in for a future downstairs bedroom and wet room. The garden was comprehensively redesigned as part of the overall scheme.
That the clients returned to commission further work whilst travelling abroad is perhaps the most telling measure of the project’s success — a result built on understanding their needs from the very first conversation.
